"I lost my dad in July. When trying to first put my dad’s home policy into my name- as I was advised to do, I was told despite having copy of his trust and death certificate that I would need a different form. The first time I asked what this form was called the woman said she didn’t know but did “warn me” that State Farm doesn’t like to insure vacant homes. I do believe this was a woman from a general State Farm number. The next time I called I called directly to a Robert McDougall office. When I tried a second time, the woman I spoke with became very agitated when I wouldn’t answer if I lived in the home. I told her I simply wanted to know the name of the documents I needed to transfer my dad’s policy. She refused to answer me. I finally sell the home and attempt to just cancel the policy instead of transfer it. Same thing. I need a different document that no one can give me the correct name of. The third woman did give me a name but it came up with something for blue cross blue shield. Before the home was sold I felt threatened that the policy would just be canceled if the home was vacant (meaning State Farm would have to send a check back for my dad’s remaining credit on the account). But once I sell the home they can’t just cancel the policy like it seemed they were threatening to do if the home was vacant before selling.. I end up having to call another branch and ask if they know what paper work they need. This branch ends up reaching out for me and the policy is canceled immediately. Being the one responsible for closing accounts has been incredibly difficult but everyone I have communicated with and dealt with has been kind and compassionate to my situation except for your staff. It’s unfortunate because I believe my dad was a customer of yours for a very long time."
